The Aquatics and Recreation Institute (ARI) NSW welcomes the announcement by NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet that indoor pools will be able to re-open from Monday 11th October for learn to swim, lap swimming and rehabilitation under a revised Roadmap to Re-opening. This marks another important milestone in the sector’s re-opening as thousands of employees return to work after several months of lockdown in hundreds of communities across New South Wales.
Matt Griffiths, ARINSW Chairperson, said “We thank the Premier and the NSW Government for engaging constructively with ARINSW and for recognising that swimming pools are at the heart of our communities. As a sector we are excited that from Monday 11 October indoor pools can get back to the business of teaching vital lifesaving skills and supporting the health and wellness of communities.”
Under the previous roadmap many regional indoor facilities would have been forced to close, only to re-open a week later with the restrictions of providing swimming lessons only. All other activities would have been excluded until 1 December 2021. ARINSW called for the State Government to reconsider its position. We are pleased to note that under the revised Roadmap to Recovery, all indoor venues across the state will now be able to reopen from Monday 11 October for a wider range of services including swimming lessons, exercise, and rehabilitation.
The ARINSW would like to acknowledge and thank the NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet, Natalie Ward - Minister for Sport, Brad Hazzard - Minister for Health, Scott Farlow - Parlimentary Secretary to the Treasurer, the Office of Sport, NSW Health and the NSW Treasury for their strong support of the aquatic and recreation sector. The ARINSW looks forward to continuing to work closely with Government to ensure the safe and successful reopening of indoor and outdoor pools across NSW.
Whilst Public Health Orders are still being finalised, the NSW Government Roadmap to Recovery has been updated and is available via the NSW Government website: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/easing-covid-19-restrictions Finally, ARINSW acknowledges the support provided by our Advocacy partners, the Y NSW, Belgravia, BlueFit, Lifeguarding Services Australia, and AUSTSWIM.
